Yellow pines

Description

Possibly, these two western yellow pines (Pinus ponderosa var. Scopulorum) (the third has perished) are the largest and oldest trees or possibly even the progenitors of the species in Latvia. Their needles are approximately 20 cm long. The pines are the only adult specimen in the Baltic States with big and beautiful pinecones. They have received the nickname of cedar-pines because of the long needles and large pinecones.
