Slocene River

Description

During the times of the Duke Jacob, in 1628, approximately at the site of the current dairy farm, a dam was set up on the River Slocene, that way forming Lake Tukums, which can be seen in many old post-cards. Next to the new dam, a mill was constructed on one side, but on the other – a copper kiln with several furnaces, ore crushing facilities, brass foundry and forging facilities. The mill burnt down in 1933, but the dam, which was bombarded during the World War II was dismantled. The lake was drained in 1947, leaving behind only the stream of Slocene.
