The former Engure Naval School building now hosts a Meeting House. Back in the day, the Engure Naval School was one of the 10 naval
schools established following a suggestion of Krišjānis Valdemārs (a prominent public figure in the 19th century). The school was founded on 2 May 1875. According to the Law on Naval Schools of 1867, it was of the 1st (the lowest) category, then according
to the law of 1880 – the 2nd category naval school, and according to the law of 1902, it stopped its operations as a professional naval
school and was categorised as a preparatory naval school. From 1875 till 1898, 413 studied at the naval school. The Engure Naval School operated up until the W orld W ar I and in 1915 it was evacuated to Russia.
The former Engure Naval School building is now a community centre with an exposition on the history of Engure rural territory and the naval school on the ground floor.
The house has also been awarded the "Hiker Friendly" sign, which shows that the needs of hikers are understood and respected, that they are welcome here.
