Lapmežciems Museum

Description

In early 2019, the reconstructed modern Lapmežciems Municipality Museum opened its doors to the visitors.
At the centre of museum exposition is a fisherman performing fishing activities in his own environment. It tells about various forms of life and work of a fisherman in different times. The history of Lapmežciems territory is closely related to fishing; in the exposition, it is disclosed through artefacts found in archaeological digs, showing the occupation of ancient fishermen, along with historical documents, maps and drawings, which depict territorial and economic changes in the daily lives of fishermen of the region. Photographs tell about the life and work of the 19th and 20th century fishermen, along with fishing and daily items that tell about the close links between household chores, work and hobbies — the sea is at the core of it all. Interactive activities allow to learn about the area of Lapmežciems and the richness of ancient place names and environment.
