Description

The construction of the Livonian Order castle in Kandava was started in 1254. The former knights’ castle contributed to the name of this mound – the Knight’s Castle Mound (68 m above the sea level). It is said that people lived in the castle up until 1750, however it was later recognised as uninhabitable and over time it turned into ruins. The tower has preserved its appearance rather well. The locals refer to it as the Powder Tower, because gunpowder was stored here during the times of the Duke Jacob.

A scaled down castle model is set up at the foot of the castle mound.
