Engure Lutheran Church

Description

The Lutheran Church of Engureis one of the rare wooden churches, the only remaining in Tukums district, which has not been destroyed or rebuilt into a masonry church. It was built in year 1804, but later has been reconstructed and repaired several times. The altar, the pulpit (1835) and the organ, which was built in year 1853-1854 by the organ-master Karl Bittner, who travelled to Latvia from Germany, are some of the noteworthy objects to be found in the church. After World War I, the church and the organ had been seriously damaged. After the final reconstruction, the 7-stop organ was open on January 6, 1932.
