The Rideli Mill

Description

The Rideli Millis situated approximately 80 kilometres away from Riga, on the right side of the Riga-Talsi highway. The mill has been situated in this place for a very long time. During the beginning of World War I, the mill burnt down, but after the agrarian reform of year 1920, it was acquired by the Kambali family and its operations were reinstated. There are premises for milling the rye flour, grits, and pearl-barley. In the mid thirties of the 20th century, a steam engine was installed there, along with qualitative grinding machinery. For the second time, the mill reinstated its operations under management of Kambali family in year 1992, and 2 years later they started grinding fine flour and make farina, but in year 1996 – pearl barley and grits.

Already back in the day, when the mill was constructed, the millpond of Rideļi was formed. Around it, resting places and spots for organizing small events have been set up, also welcome are the fishermen. If you find this place to be appealing, you can also arrange a picnic there at any time and rent a boat to go boating in the millpond.

The mill is not anymore used for processing vast amounts of grain. On the excursion at the mill, the visitors can see the equipment of mills and then try out the pancakes at the café “Cope”, which is right across the road.
