As part of the nationwide event “Home Café Days”, the hostesses and hosts of 10 home cafés “Tastes along Abava river bends” will welcome guests on 16th and 17th August. The dishes offered by the hosts and hostesses of the home cafés are varied: they reflect local culinary traditions as well as the hosts’ personal recipes and creativity.

“Pancake paradise” in Kandava

The host Kitija Švīgere offers a variety of sweet and savoury pancakes and crêpes, as well as potato pancakes and Komm Morgen Wieder pancakes. You will also have a chance to meet the naturopath Inita offering nature’s bounties.

“Flavours of hostesses of Saulītes” in Kandava

The hostesses of the “Saulītes” multi-storey house offer a soup cooked over campfire, shish kebab, yeast pancakes, and to top it all off — the Graceful cheesecake and the Nostalgic “Ieviņa” cheesecake or apple crumble. A painting exhibition will also be set up. Open only on 16th of August!

“Dimžkalni” near Kandava

The host Arvis Štoferts will be offering wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas, which are so tempting and delicious: Margarita, Pancetta e Cipolla, Prosciutto, Pesto & Mozzarella, and for the sweet tooth — a tiramisu with fresh blueberries. The owner Arvis has just built himself a wood-fired pizza oven.

“The goat of Birznieki” in Vāne municipal parish

The “Birznieki” farm of the owner Jānis Tiltiņš is the second largest goat farm in Latvia, so everything from goat meat and milk will be on offer: vegetable soup with goat meat, grilled ribs, flat meatballs, Uzbek rice pilaf with goat meat, ice cream, Panna Cotta with sauce. Cooperation partner: Kandava Wine House. On 16 August from 14.00 onwards, in cooperation with the Latvian Goat Breeding Society, an educational seminar “In the Footsteps of Latvia’s Local Goat” will take place.

“The forest bread takes on the world...” in Cēre rural municipality

The host Inga Neimane bakes bread daily according to the old Latvian traditions in a real bread oven, however the offer of the home café days will include foreign dishes: Hungarian goulash soup, Lithuanian cold soup, Chinese noodles with hoisin chicken sauce and Asian slaw, also a meat and root vegetable stew cooked over campfire, as well as cakes in various forms. Throughout the day — demonstrations of white bread making. Open only on 16th of August!

“Stop and rest at Rideļi Lodes” in Sēme rural municipality

The hosts — up until recently, residents of Riga Liana Legzdiņa and Raimonds Soopargs — will offer goulash soup and Komm Morgen Wieder pancakes with organic beef (Hereford cattle), potato pancakes with various toppings, home-made ice-creams and Napoleon cake. The hosts strongly believe the idea that good neighbours are worth their weight in gold, so neighbour Agita Pumpure will introduce guests to the method of single-needle glove and sock making and different types of belt weaving without a loom.

“The charm of a rural multi-story building” in Pūre

The hostesses of the multi-storey houses in the centre of Pure will be offering gazpacho and warm tomato-lentil soup, Baiba’s beef burger, kebab sausages, potato salad, crêpes and the Different Honey Cake. The offer will also include other local delicacies. Take a turn down the 176-year-old chestnut tree alley, and in the middle of it, stop by the house No. 22 to make it your own for a brief moment and enjoy the charm of the house No. 22! Open only on 17th of August!

“Let’s have pancakes in Murdiņi!” Sāti

The host Dace Nefa will be offering stuffed pancakes: with minced meat, with cheese and ham, with sweet quark, alongside potato pancakes and home-cooked solyanka. You will get a chance to see a farmer’s dream — a tractor working Latvia’s fields. At the home producers’ market: The pride of Irlava — wicker baskets, Grenči honey, as well as activities for children.

"ANCESTRAL LAND — TODAY’S FLAVOUR” in Jaunpils

Local hostesses of Jaunpils will lovingly prepare and serve food to make everyone, who eats it, stronger and happier: a porcini bean soup, stews, various stuffed pancakes, quark cream with berry sauce and home-baked and lovingly prepared cakes. All dishes will be made from products grown, created and nurtured in Jaunpils. The offer will also include other activities: A visit to the craft house with crafts and weaving demonstration, live accordion music, clay workshop. Open only on 16th of August!
