During the Tukums festival, an impressive installation "Kungs Tukums" was opened in Brīvības Square, which is the largest mirror environment object in the Baltics. This unique object covers an area of more than 226 m² and is made of 96 mirror aluminum composite panels, creating a magnificent interplay with the landscape of Brīvības Square and its visitors.
The uniqueness of the object
Inspirational quotes and words of strength can be read on the surface of "Kungs Tukums", which emphasizes that KUNGS TUKUMS is ourselves, because only together we create our city and region. This object, which Tukum residents call the house of mirrors, leaves no one indifferent. During the day, the landscape of the Freedom Square is reflected on the surface of the mirrors, but at night, the object is colored in different shades, offering a charming light show.
Artistic concept
The design of the installation was created by the artist Ilze Cērpiņa, whose graphic image "Kungs Tukums" describes the identity of Tukums and the county with various symbols - city of roses, city of gardens, city of art and literature, creative city. The most observant visitors will also be able to see artistic elements on the object's surface, such as the smoke of the "peace pipe".
Project implementation
The author of the idea and artistic concept is Ilze Cērpiņa, while the technical solutions were provided by the director of "Advertex Latvia" Sandris Valdmanis. The project was created in cooperation with the municipality of Tukuma region, Tukuma culture house and sponsors "Mana aptieka" and "Advertex". The inspiration came from Gunas Roze's book "Kungs Tukums". Producer - Tukuma City Culture House, director Liene Bēniņa.
The future of installation
"Kungs Tukums" will be on display in Brīvības Square until the spring of 2025, when the reconstruction of the square will begin and the object will be dismantled. The object can then change location, continuing to delight visitors elsewhere.
