A Different Rose Festival in Tukums
From 16th until 18th of July, Tukums will be celebrating a Different Rose Festival! The times we live in have not only brought restrictions, but also inspiration and creativity, as we think about new and emerging formats.
The key elements of the festival will include five objects outdoors which will please the festival guests throughout the three days of the festival. More than 20 thousand roses will be weaved into these objects. The FLORAL BOAT will take you on a dreamy journey on Meža Street. The large ROSE GARLAND will be set up at Brīvības Square. At the territory of Tukku Magi, the composition ART NEEDS SPACE will embody the dream of a new and modern culture space in our town. At the DREAM STOP in the town park you can await your dream bus or dream prince. Whereas on Talsu Street, you can linger in memories as you wallow in the FLOWER CHILD NOSTALGIA.
Large-scale Flower Objects in the Town
ROSE GARLAND | Brīvības Square | Authors: Anita Stikāne and Agra Maulāne
The rose garland at Brīvības Square is the main symbol of the festival. Each year, more than five thousand roses are weaved into it to symbolise the immense power of unity. This year, it is to signify a dream of the endless and continuous path of the sun. With the garland, we remind of the great significance of traditions and we understand how important it is to remember our roots that have brought us where we are — another Rose Festival.
On 16 July, from 11.00 until 17.00, bring your rose to Brīvības Square and weave it into the great garland.
FLORAL BOAT | 4 Meža Street | Authors: Evita Šteinerte-Pudāne and Dace Baumane
We can all imagine tranquil waters reflecting the stars... We can only dream about it, but the authors of the work will be urging you to imagine the impossible. All of a sudden, the great boat will stop right in the middle of the town and will be inviting you to fantasise about faraway travels full of adventures. So romantic – “And it is just us in the boat...” The folk song goes along the same lines “Make, oh brother, a boat of flowers...” because it is a light boat and can also bring the garland back to the coast.
DREAM STOP | Tukums Town Park | Author: Evita Kleinhofa
Take a break from the mad rush of day-to-day life. Enjoy a moment at the dream stop. Sit down on the bench of hopes and let yourself dream not only about a rose. Be close by, see your loved ones, have a chat, receive undivided attention — even this now is often just a dream.
ART NEEDS SPACE | Courtyard of Tukku Magi | Authors: Liene Smeltere Ķiece
Along with Katrīna of Tukums who dreams of a rose, we will let ourselves long for a beautiful art space in our town. This vision can be turned into reality if you invest creativity and imagination. Tukku Magi invites you to be inspired by what surrounds us and to see potential where the ancient values meet the contemporary life.
NOSTALGIA OF FLOWER CHILDREN | 4 Talsu Street | Author: Madara Kukša
In a not so distant future, also today will seem nostalgic — when you think of domestic matters, fashion and enthusiastic romanticism. How wonderful it is to receive a bunch of flowers, and better yet – a whole cart of flowers! Through its windows and doors, like a foamy cloud, colourful joy will flow out because today we dream of enjoying fun, being carefree and wishing to be silly.
